design matters

We’re inspired by well-designed homes and the satisfaction that comes from creating them for others. We love the process of creation - collaborating not just with our clients but with the artists, craftspeople and makers who bring our designs to life.

Great design should be a marriage of both form and function. Our interiors are aspirational but also true and authentic to each client's lifestyle.

Collaboration is an important part of our work. The combination of unique energy and skills of our team members helps to create a seamless process.

our team

Designing a space is an experience that can be exciting. It should feel smooth, satisfying, and hold promise. We are committed to making that happen for every client.

We start by asking questions: what inspires you? What makes you feel calm? What excites you - and how do you define a “beautiful life?” Based on the answers, we create a design that speaks to who you are and how you want to live. A personal, one-of-a-kind home.

enjoy the process

I believe that beauty and great design elevate life. This guides every decision I make and I strive to share this passion with my clients as I help them create homes for themselves and their families.

I grew up in the creative home of two young, bohemian and very resourceful parents. They fostered a love for art and experiences of all kinds, as well as an appreciation for both the bizarre and the beautiful. I was encouraged to explore life. That led me on an unconventional path to JL Powers Design.

I immersed myself in the design world wherever I could and was fortunate to work with passionate people whose focus was on craft, quality and attention to detail, such as architect West Chin, designer Jonathan Rosen and the incredible team at Jonas upholstery.

Today at JLPD I strive to bring that same focus and passion to every aspect of our business.

JILLIAN KEY

Being born and raised across from Manhattan, the skyline has always been the backdrop to my life. Growing up, I was captivated by the ever-multiplying skyscrapers erected along the city’s silhouette. Along with this fascination, I have always had a creative spirit. This has been the driving force behind my interest in architecture and design.

My passion for finding the beauty and artful expressions present in everyday life is what led me to pursue a BFA in Interior Architecture from George Washington University. There I fell deeper in love with creating functional spaces that inspire and delight users.

I believe that the best design solution is thoughtful and creates a sense of comfort and satisfaction. I aim to create unique spaces that are catered to not just the aesthetic likings of the client, but also their needs.

ALEX CABALLERO

I’ve had many “lives.” My career in theater made its way from performance, to design and directing so I’m drawn to spaces that have theater and drama to them. When I design a space, I think a lot about what story it will tell people and what their experience will feel like.

My love of entertaining has also helped me develop a sense of what small details enrich those experiences. When I style a room, those details make it come to life.
